DON'T DROP THE STANDARD

A fitting way to go on mid season break with a comprehensive victory showing that last weekend's game wasn't a fluke.

Normally after an impressive game there is always a low, however, Woodbridge Strikers Boys didn't fall victim to that trap in today's encounter against Tecumseh. The first quarter saw the players being rather cautious on both sides. This being the first ever match up for both opponents and neither wanted to make any early errors.

It proved to be a day of first as Dreson was seated amongst the injured players and Luca had to be called up from the 06 team as replacement goalie. The resumption of the second quarter saw the introduction of Mr. Energy, Damiano, who almost with his first touch nearly scored. The pace quicken substantially with lots more ball movements by Strikers resulting in a barrage of shot attempted. Damiano opened the scoring with a superb strike proving too hot to hold by Tecumseh custodian.

Anthony, another of the second quarter sub netted his first goal of the season after some brilliant intricate passes out from defense into midfield. It became apparent by now that Strikers were in total control of the game in all areas of the park: defense was in communication and shifting quickly to every opposition play to suffocate any threat.

Ethan placed his earlier blunder on the back burner to slot home a more difficult attempt. His striking partner Tremaine is now scoring goals with relative ease and secured another hat trick. Commendation must be shared for the wingers who are making such delicious plays from the flanks plus running back and helping out defensively.

Today all of the corner kicks was on the money and a bit unfortunate that a goal didn't result from such sublime services. Great job Marco and Jon-Michael. After a disappointment in his first free kick attempted Isaiah redeemed himself with a piece of perfection that nestled inside the roof of the opposition's goal.

Watching practice on Saturday and seeing all the things that were worked on, in fairness to the boys they tried to execute... in particular the overlapping runs. Amrit and Luka must be credited, also the players who fill in when they make those runs. A plus for the Strikers who are doing better linking up with play... improvement is showing.

Undoubtedly, the swagger seems to be coming back into the Woodbridge Strikers Boys 05 team which is now visible in attitude and body language of our boys. I cannot wait for all injured players to be back in action to ascertain the real strength and depth of the squad. The work by the coaching staff is showing and paying rewards.

Another great team win boys where every single player contribution was important. It helped to maintain your position on top of the table.

Point of interest, after the game I had a conversation with some of the Tecumseh parents and they shared how impressed they were with our boys abilities to control, shift play and moving without the ball. One even went as far as saying that we are the best they have played against thus far.
