AN ASSESSMENT GAME

Being in the Media does come with its privileges.
One of which allowed me to watch the game as a blogger.Present but unable to participate due to injury were Luka and Fateh. It's was almost the story book ending when Jon-michael shifted the ball from left boot to right with intent on slotting it in the open net. He would have been the ideal candidate to win the game for Woodbridge Strikers. The game started off briskly by TFC Academy trying immediately to utilize all areas on the playing field. In all honesty Woodbridge Strikers took a few minutes off the clock before settling down.Eventually after they did we started seeing Anthony and Isaiah getting more and more on the  ball in the opponent's half making their intentions clear that they were not going to be intimidated by the physical playing style of the opposition. From all indications every player came to play. Yes TFC had lots more possessions which is quite understandable taking into consideration they are accustomed to …

GREAT PRESEASON START

A first look at the team for majority of parents in a competitive atmosphere. Two friendlies completed and two impressive performance with some individual stand out plays. It was great seeing Nicholas and his parents as he now plays with Oakville FC. Just as delighted also in reconnecting with the parents of the boys doing training at TFC.The Oakville facility just 10 years old is very impressive but could use a few upgrades. Wonder if and when Woodbridge SC will boast something similar. With Christopher absent there had to be a reshuffling within the defensive structure. Tayvin was slotted into the central role between wing back and Marco given the opportunity as holding midfielder. The start was a bit wobbly with some errant passes and ball control from Isaiah one of the mid field general on the team. He was pulled aside by the coach and I assume given some encouraging  words... thereafter his play improved.Improvement was quite evident from the Thursday's game against TFC. The comb…

INSIGHTFUL POSSIBILITIES

Push-ups, jumping jacks, sit ups, words of encouragement and experience shared through wisdom.Train harder in practice and the actual game becomes easier."The most glorious moments in your life are not the so-called days of success, but rather those days when out of dejection and despair you feel a rise in you to challenge yourself in practice beyond comfort and the promise of future accomplishments are then formed mentally.” – Gustave Flaubert 1842There weren't a lot of parents present watching practice as normal...four boys away on training... three were unable to participate but present and one unavailable. The weather outside was bitterly cold reminded me of been in Chicago 1988.To the best of my knowledge I have not written about a practice session therefore making this a first. It began with the boys playing a basketball game where the concept was high press  and don't allow turn and pass. It's other function was that of getting them warmed up and thinking.A swi…

THERE WERE POSITIVES

Two referees different calls. Two teams and different outcome. Preparation is no guarantee of achieving the desired results that one seek. In essence all it does is allow one to be entirely competitive in whatever discipline whilst performing at maximum efficiency and potential. Each referee made calls that spectators and coaches alike were not in agreement with. Not questioning right nor wrong but lack thereof in consistency. A very important lesson to be learned here, two personal interpretation  of the rules give conflicting outcomes. Somethings our boys will have to get accustomed to as they grow and develop into adulthood. Just a difference in perspective and not personal. From all indications team Blue mastered the high pressure on the opponent's in both games effectively to the detriment of their opposition. They also impressed with covering for each other when a teammate made a forward run.  Moving the ball quickly and accurately giving rise to some individual brilliance. In…

NEW FACES ADDED

Image
Luka is missing from the photo due to injury.
There is a buzz of excitement flying around the new look team.
Creativity is a process, not an immediate result. In 1666, one of the most influential scientists in history was strolling through a garden when he was struck with a flash of creative brilliance that would change the world (Newton's memoir).
As we embark on a new season of soccer which gets going this weekend in the Durham Futsal Cup. In driving and using a GPS one has to input where they are coming from before inputting where they are trying to reach. So I will begin from the end of last season.
There were changes to the roster as three players unfortunately were not given a contract to remain with the team or for personal reasons decided to move on. Therefore fifteen players remaining from the old roster. From these fifteen boys there are notable personal achievements such as:  Five played in the Donone final in Montreal and three went on to the world tournament in USA. Three…

COMMENDATIONS & RECOGNITIONS

Effort, commitment, execution and communication are all attributes that makes for  great players. There's no doubt that our team the Woodbridge Strikers 05 Boys possess all of those qualities. It's therefore a true testament  when some of them are acknowledged on an individual basis as a symbol of their hard work.
Momentous as it is for the Woodbridge organization to post such information on their website, its far more significant to the individual's family on their child being selected to participate, thus representing as an ambassador for fellow teammates who will definitely learn and benefit from their experiences.Let me clarify and give justification before I continue using the words, " Hard Work ".  It is not to imply that others who were not selected didn't demonstrate hard work.  It is used in the context of this article as ones willingness to give their all in every situation whilst on the field of play.Tayvin and Tremaine's hard work throughout th…

CONGRATULATIONS & CONTINUATION

Firstly let us applaud all the first round participants in the provincial tryouts. For those five boys moving on it's a step closer to their individual and personal achievement. Undoubtedly this harbors well for them, the Woodbridge organization their respective parents and fellow teammates. The five boys most likely will be overjoyed by the news that they will be continuing on. Honestly it will only become far more difficult in the remaining tryouts. Therefore, their game will have to be elevated beyond last performance. Furthermore, it's in their best interest to continue keeping physically active and if possible in contact with a soccer ball.To the other six boys who didn't move on be confident in your abilities and if it is any consolation you were a part of the history making eleven. There is never ever the correct or right words to console someone after a setback. I will attempt nevertheless, I have watched you boys all season long in training as well as in games and …
