THEY STARTED TALKING

Truly a very competitive game today between Woodbridge Strikers and Oakville both exhibiting different styles of playing. Oakville sitting back waiting on the counter attack, while Strikers are willing to move the ball from side to side until the opening is available for a telling through ball.

Strikers started off with a 1-3-1-4-2 formation giving starts to Marco in the holding midfielder role, Anthony attacking midfield and Damiano outside winger. The boys began tentatively only making horizontal passes showing apprehension in attacking the space given by Oakville because they were just sitting back in a ten man defense.

The intensity escalated seeing Strikers starting to dictate tempo with more searching forward passes resulting in early corner kicks and free kicks being won. Oakville almost got caught out on one of the corner kick... Strikers let them off the hook.

Interchanging of position was noticeable amongst midfielders and the striker at times which helped build players confidence and prevent vacant gaps. Again Woodbridge Strikers nemeniss showed up, by the boys trying their best to score but not converting....it's not for the lack of shooting drills.

Oakville defenders definitely let Woodbridge Strikers attacking duo know that they were playing against far more physical and aggressive players...constantly being stepped on, shoved and grabbed and in majority of those actions the referee's whistle didn't work effectively. I heard that one mom almost had to be physically restraint from entering the field of play to defend her child.

The boys could actually be heard in the game today communicating with each other as well as those who came off the bench did bring effort and a willingness to fire on the opponent's goal. Fateh was definitely unlucky, his two thunderous shots got blocked. Ethan again demonstrated how clinical a finisher he is in front of goal by scoring a sizzler. Damiano tireless work paid dividends when he scored the winner.

A complete team effort with all participants contribution helped in securing a hard fought win. Amrit joined Tayshaun M. on the injury list... speedy recovery boys.

To all the GREAT gentleman who are fathers I hope you enjoyed the win and that you will all be treated as KINGS . The chocolate is truly appreciated, thanks Ania.

Firstly, let me extend congrats to coach Joe and coach Marco for the splendid job in the absence of coach Chris. Honestly, I don't know where to begin as it was highly entertaining and exciting in the same breath. WHERE WAS THIS BEFORE ?

The weather condition was very conducive for soccer. Did it materialized into a brilliant game of soccer especially in Woodbridge Strikers favor ? Playing against TFC OPDL boys from rumors one also has to contend with the referee's decision...we have witnessed it first hand. The roar by Strikers is always a determining factor of their vibes if they are in for a good game and today's shout could be heard from far and wide. Strikers sent a verbal message before a ball was kicked or the blowing of the referees whistle. Even in warm up gave the impression of cohesion, professionalism and focus. TFC came out from kick off as a rocket fired into space trying as best as possible in stopping Woodbridge Strikers Boys from playing out of defense. If that was their game plan Strikers quickly nullified it and laid it to rest. The saying goes don't give what you yourself cannot take. Brian is photographed in the above photo His excitement was hard to detect behind the humility and shyness of his personality. It took some convincing for Brian, Cristian's dad, to agree on doing a written article from a parent's view point. He was asked specifically to share from a parent's experience coming from a family that possesses a rich history in the sport. According to Brian, "Cristian's selection to travel to Southampton (UK) was a privilege to say the least. In addition to our regular Club training, Cristian attended additional goalkeeper training prior to departure, not knowing the level and caliber we were walking into. From the onset, Elite Tournaments who organized the event had a jammed pack itinerary set for the boys. Their day started with an early morning breakfast and off to training they went.
