BMO Champions Cup

Woodbridge SC VS. Sigma FC
Lady Luck Was Absent

It was a pulsating game, not one for the faint of heart. Strikers started off a bit out of sync.. maybe it was playing inside the TFC dome that got them feeling the jitters. The ambiance of the surrounding was totally different from any other dome most of the boys have been in.

Nothing much in the first quarter as the boys took basically fifteen minutes to settle down and play Woodbridge Strikers type of soccer. In the second quarter our boys emerged with a renewed vigor and enthusiasm about moving  the ball much quicker and winning the fifty fifty plays. Our midfielders started to dictate the tempo of the game with lots more authority and effectiveness demonstrated with a telling ball out of the center circle that ripped open Sigma's defence that Fateh latch onto and almost scored.

Starting of the third quarter, officially second half saw Strikers continue to press for that elusive goal only to be thawed on a couple of tries by Josh in net for the opponents. It was not a lack of creativity or trying but the defence stood resolute in preventing our potent striking duo of manufacturing any clear attempts on net.

There were some noticeable great free kicks into the penalty box just needing the slightest of touch. The boys have to attack those ball by being a bit more courageous. Again Isaiah continue with his traditional in game ritual where he hit the crossbar whilst the goalie looks on in utter amazement. Immediately after Cristian made a spectacular kick save to ensure that his clean sheet remain intact and game scoreless.

An impressive team performance and if I am bold enough to say some stand out individual brilliance in the process as well. Yes there are room for improvement and going forward I trust that the coaches will address as seen. With almost the last kick of the game I thought Tayvin was going to win it for the Strikers when he calculated, adjusted and fired the perfect shot on net, only in disbelief by majority of the fans who leaped into midair to see it go about two inches wide.

Lady luck chose not to grant us the joy of celebrating on a Wednesday. Celebration most likely will be on Friday evening. Come on out and support the boys, because they are the ones who make up the Woodbridge Strikers 05 team. The more daunting a task is the greater satisfaction it will be after accomplishing the impossibility.

  1. It was a nail biting game but not for us to celebrate. Fantastic showing for the strikers yet again. Boys go for the shots. Good luck
