SHEDDING THE RUST AFTER THE BREAK

Today, August 11, 2018 we witnessed the true brilliance of Christian as a goal keeper and all that were spoken about him so notoriously.

The game started off at a frantic pace with both teams trying to establish control and eliminate the rust gathered from two weeks off in the sweltering heat. It became apparent that some players didn't miss a beat while few exhibited sluggishness.

Our opponents came out with all intend and purpose to prevent  the Strikers from scoring, demonstrated by some wonderful individual defending as well working steller in the team concept of defense.

It was short lived as a solo run into the penalty box by Fateh came to an abrupt end...him being fouled, resulting in a penalty shot. Marco, the "PK" specialist calmly stepped up and slotted into the back of the net. Putting the Strikers in front and supporters into jubilation.

Woodbridge Strikers showcased an array of passing , moving the ball around quickly at times plus hitting the person running in behind the opponent's defense.

Our opponent tried to keep themselves in the game when they were awarded a penalty shot . The spotlight illuminated on our keeper, both set of spectators fell
silent... the kicker placed the ball with extreme confidence based on body language. Cristian poised waiting for the whistle to act and that he did with astute distinction and denied the opponent's from equalizing. His next save from the opponent's free kick appeared as if he simply went into the atmosphere and pulled out a soccer ball with an outstretched arm.

Not wanting to be undone by their keeper the outfield players decided to score more goals and Tremaine bagged a brace. It was not for lack of trying that the score only reads 3:0.

On a point of interest, they know that they cannot beat Woodbridge Strikers because they are the best team in the league (extract from North Toronto Parents).

There were areas of weaknesses in pockets throughout the game that needs attention, as the keeper shouted," they are going through the middle too easily".

Overall a fantastic game after the break.
10-1-1 ⚽🥅
