MOTHER'S DAY GIFT
Today's game was about great execution from training ground onto the actual playing field.
Woodbridge Strikers got off to a dream start with in form striker Tremaine capitalizing on some indecision between the North Mississauga keeper and defense resulting in Strikers going up 1:0 very early. Jordan had to be substituted early in the first quarter suffering from, "Birthday Boy" effects.
The opponents came with a drilled game plan to clog up the middle of the field and play on the counter attack. They were having some success from doing so and kept Strikers interchanging passes amongst defenders and not bold enough to bring the central midfielders into play even when they showed. It payed dividends for North Mississauga when they pounced on a loose ball and mounted a quick counter to score which tied up the game.
With changes to begin the second quarter Strikers maintained the high pressure at specific time under the instructions of Head Coach Julian. Our boys continued from where they had left off without missing a pass. The slight drizzle on the artificial surface was causing a number of sliding at critical times...so too for the opposition players.
The dial on the indicator was pointing towards a draw/ tied game from all the saves by the opponent's goalie and near misses. Strikers magnified their pressure with quicker short passes and going longer at times by Dreson using the speed of the strikers and wing players.
Again, their counter attack caught our boys resulting in a penalty spot kick. Dreson used his eyes to push the ball over the crossbar on the second attempt after the referee disallowed the first one stating he did not blow his whistle.
For the final quarter Woodbridge Strikers showed their fitness and superior quality by boxing in the opposition in their own half of the field. The advantage gave the boys their just reward with Tremaine latching onto a pass from Isaiah that he slotted home. A cutting edge pass out of defense found the boots of Tremaine who needed no prompting to register his hat trick.
Ethan after mesmerizing the North Mississauga defense laid off to Tayvin to slot home who refused on the grounds that a true gentleman does not score unless the keeper is in position to attempt saving the shot. Isaiah on the other hand scored an hat trick of misses and commented that he cannot recall taking that many shots and missing them all.
On a point of interest, every single one of those boys wants to score so when it does not happen...it's not because of lack of trying with purpose and intent. So therefore please be mindful of loud negative comments, it will affect their confidence and composure.
There were a few obvious errors that I know will be addressed and rectified by the coaching staff. It was great seeing Coach Chris back on the bench after his vacation.
Again the contribution came in from all the players on the team. Witnessing coach Joe giving final technical instructions to the boys in the warm up area is an added benefit that other team don't have. Once again the boys out shot their opponent, something we should be proud of because they are now putting shots on goal.
Another great win by Woodbridge Strikers for all the mothers on their special day.
